World Gin Day is once again upon us this Saturday 10th June! Bars and distillers have been getting their heads together to educate, intoxicate and most of all, celebrate gin, and while you’re in the midst of a long weekend, why not give in? To help you about your day, I’ve found you some stunning events to cover you from Brunch to Nightcaps…Enjoy!
Many South East Asian-inspired cocktails are on the sweeter side, but they don’t have to be. As part of World Class Cocktail Week, Cookie is hosting Stirred Down With Supper, a savoury martini-making masterclass.
The process of constructing a drink is the same as constructing a meal, and the team at Cookie will use these principles to show you how to balance and blend savoury flavours.
Tanqueray gin might be infused with rosemary and caramelised onion; or Tanqueray No. TEN gin with basil, tomato and white pepper.
The flavours will be Thai-leaning, but once outside the masterclass, the principles can be applied to any combinations you choose.
Alongside Maidenii’s Shaun Byrne (also of Gin Palace) you will get to share the Maidenii Australian craft vermouth story and prepare a selection of classic and contemporary martinis using Victorian craft gin- Four Pillars.
Having picked up a few trade secrets participants will then have a chance to mix their own martini under expert supervision. After perfecting their martini making skills, participants will enjoy canapes and have the opportunity to meet and greet Four Pillars creator and distiller, Cameron MacKenzie as well as Gilles Lapalus & Shaun Byrne- Maidenii creators.
Participants are also eligible for a discount price for the 5 Course Producer Wine Dinner following the Masterclass. The price for the masterclass only is $90, Producer Dinner Only -$250, Masterclass & Producer Dinner -$320
A wonderful opportunity to meet Sam Galsworthy, co-founder of Sipsmith Gin and one of The London Evening Standard’s 1,000 Most Influential Londoners of 2014, in the delightful surrounds of The Elk Room at The Everleigh, Fitzroy.
Sam will share the story behind the creation of Sipsmith, the first distillery to open in London for 180 years before leading us in a tasting of the 3 Sipsmith Gins; London Dry, VJOP and Sloe.
This is the only consumer event Sam will be attending in Melbourne and is not to be missed!
These classes are designed to help break down the barriers to ordering and enjoying a martini in bars around the world. Drink your way through history and find out who favoured martinis through time and why oh why people like it dry, when those in the know, know wetter is better! The masterclass is $50 a head.
